History
Lena's grandparents left the Qun and acted just as the stereotype suggests. They were violent, cruel, and wild. Eventually they met up with enough fellow Tal-Vashoth to get a community of sorts going, though it was based on being bandits and living off what they could steal. Both her parents (Rethsaam and Hissera) were raised in this environment, though when Hissera became pregnant with Lena's older brother Aban, they decided they wanted better for their children and left the other Tal-Vashoth.
Raiding was all they knew, and they skipped from odd job to odd job before Rethsaam settled for mercenary work. Often Rethsaam would be gone for months at a time while Hissera took jobs washing people's laundry or taking care of livestock on nearby farms. Lena was born two years after Aban and together they grew up rarely seeing their father.
When Aban was sixteen, his father brought him into his mercenary company, leaving Lena behind with her mother. Determined to join them someday, she began practicing with daggers and archery. A neighbor taught her how to mix poisons (used to kill farm pests), and she began coating her weapons in them. While she was decent with a bow, she preferred getting up close and personal with her knives. She often tracked rams, deer, or wolves to see how close she could sneak up on them without them noticing. With practice, she was able to get right behind them and strike. She took delight in being so large, yet being able to sneak up on prey.
At age sixteen, her father and brother returned to bring her into the family business. She took to the work easily and liked the jobs where she got to kill people. There was apparently a bit of her grandparents in her, even though she never knew either side. Years later, her father decided to retire before he grew too old for the work, and he returned home to Hissera. Aban and Lena switched between mercenary companies, eventually finding the Valo-Kas. It was the first time Lena fought alongside mages, and she took a shine to Korrin, though she always said Korrin was far nicer than she was. Korrin would rather give someone a chance before shooting them with a lightning bolt, while Lena would prefer to gut them first and rifle through their pockets after. Still, she allowed Korrin to talk sense into her when need be. Sometimes she forgot that the job required the target stay alive. At the Temple of Sacred Ashes, several in their company were blown up, including Aban. Lena took off with the rest, bitter and angry at the loss, but with no one to blame. She dove back into work, showing a strong violent streak as she expressed her pain. But Corypheus was the reason her brother was dead, so now she'll arrive here to make sure he dies.
Personality
Lena doesn't so much put up walls as hang a big sign on the door that says "DON'T CARE." And in most cases, it's not even a defense mechanism. She's just a selfish person who really doesn't care about your problems. If you are paying her for mercenary work, she'll care as long as needed to get paid, and then forgets about you. Shared experiences help to get on her good side, and she counts those in the Valo-Kas company as friends, for the most part. Making her laugh is also a way to get on her good side, but mostly she holds people at arm's length. She just needs enough money to live on, people to fight, and she's happy. Simple tastes, really.
While she can be violent, it's really just used as a release valve. Fighting and killing is what she's good at, but she doesn't go out looking for targets. The average person is safe from her knives. But bandits, slavers, double dealers, murderers? They're good people to take her daggers to. Usually her anger stems from selfish things: the company wasn't paid, she lost something valuable, they walked to the ass end of nowhere to find there's no job, etc. But now that her brother is dead, all her anger is focused on his killer. Aban was one of the few people she actually cared about, and now he's gone. And she doesn't know how else to get out her pain but to inflict pain on others.
With her brother gone, Lena is the closest to Korrin. Her blunt attitude is similar to Lena's, but she's a lot kinder too, and Lena knows that without Korrin's influence, she's liable to go off the deep end and be just like the Tal-Vashoth from stories, ripping people to pieces. She knows once she goes that far, there's no coming back, so Korrin is her lifeline. Keeping herself in check can sometimes be a challenge, but it's about knowing when to blow her top and when things are just dumb and don't need attention drawn to them. Someone betting her they're better at throwing knives than her won't find themselves with a knife to their throat or dragged outside to compete. She doesn't care, because she has confidence in her skills and only the weak need to declare their skills to a bunch of strangers. She also never takes a bet because people who insist on betting are also the ones to cheat to make sure they win. Lena has worked hard to become a skilled rogue and now it's like breathing to her. Jobs keep her dagger skills sharp, mixing ingredients for poisons and flasks keeps her focused. And money is the reward. Only now she's looking for revenge, and that will be the ultimate reward.
Opinions & Affiliations
Lena tends to let few things bother her, unless they directly involve her or those she holds dear. The only reason she even takes note of the war between Templars and mages is because Korrin is a mage, and she doesn't want her caught up in all that bull. She isn't scared of mages overall and uses elemental forces herself as a Tempest. An apostate can blow up a Chantry and she would only care if someone inside that building was supposed to pay her. The only time she says the Maker's or Andraste's names are when she's swearing. Don't ask her if they actually exist. She doesn't know or care. She looks out for number one and doesn't apologize for it. Which is why the Qun is terrifying to her. She'd rather kill herself then let them brainwash her into being a good little worker that thinks of the group above herself. She's part of the Valo-Kas mercenary group, and while she wouldn't go so far as to call them all family, she trusts them enough not to stab her in the back. Also worth noting is that she trusts Korrin's judgment, so those Korrin likes she'll give a chance, and dismiss those Korrin doesn't like.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Fighting Abilities:
Strengths:Rogue: duel wields daggers, uses poisons on her weapons or on items the target will use, is surprisingly stealthy, can use a bow if need be. Tempest: in addition to poisons, Lena also creates elixirs in flasks to give her boosts in fights. Stealth: she can sneak up on people or animals, and hide well. Usually she scouts out a place first, since she's so tall and the horns can be an issue, so she wants to make sure she can get in position first.
Weaknesses:She's a damn fine fighter and has all the standard rogue abilities like stealth, flipping out of the way, throwing poisonous powders at people, etc. She's a good lockpicker. She lets few things needle at her. She is an expert at making poisons or elixirs. She's fun to be around because she's not preachy and mostly just jokes around and isn't serious.
She's not great at laying/disarming traps. She's used to small skirmishes, not big battles. She has a violent temper when roused. She's rarely serious. She will do nearly anything for money because she has few morals. She's selfish and looks out for number one and will probably leave you hanging from a cliff edge. She's hard to win over and gain her loyalty.

Motivation
Her brother died at the Conclave. Corypheus is responsible. Time to kick Corypheus's withered darkspawn balls up into his throat.
